The colloquium concerns recent advances and developments in Finite Fracture Mechanics (FFM) for the assessment of crack initiation at stress concentrators or singularities other than classical crack tips. It will focus on numerical, implementation and algorithm aspects, FFM confrontation with other fracture descriptions (such as, e.g. cohesive zone models or phase field for fracture), experimental aspects linked to the indentification of fracture parameters and FFM coupling with full field measurements, over a wide range of materials and crack initiation configurations.

Originally developed and classically employed through computationally efficient semi-analytic 2D approaches under small deformation assumptions and linear elastic framework, several breakthroughs were proposed during the last 5 years:
FFM has recently been extended to 3D, to account for geometrical and material nonlinearities as well as dynamic aspects. It has proved efficient to assess fracture at micro- or even nano-scale, in bio-inspired and 3D-printed materials, confrontation with other fracture descriptions (e.g. phase field for fracture, coesive zone models, thick level set, gradient elasticity, peridynamic) .

The proposed colloquium is dedicated to enhance the investigation of these topics, to strengthen the collaboration between researchers working on FFM and other related fracture models and develop test protocols in the framework of FFM.

We are planning an in-presence event at INSA Lyon, France.

The colloquium is supported by "La Région Auvergne Rhône-Alpes", Euromech, MATEIS Laboratory, MECAMAT and Carnot Institute ingénierie@Lyon
